Sid and Lucy – A Love Story

EXCLUSIVE:  Sid and Lucy Hawthorne live in Broome County, NY.  They just celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary, and are still madly in love.

According to Lucy, Sid asked her to marry him the moment he laid eyes on her.  Lucy’s story is so fantastical that we have transcribed it here in full, as told to our reporter Lynesse Rammiser. Lucy says:

The day we met was one of the strangest, but in retrospect the most wonderful day of my life. This handsome, dapper young man who was yet a stranger ran over to me while I was sitting with my friends in our local park. He asked for a moment of my time and launched into the craziest story I had ever heard.

He said that the day before, he had been an 88 year old man in the future, and that we were married with two boys named Johnny and Ben, a girl we called Molly, and a whole series of Basset Hounds whose names always started with the letter V.

We lived a full life together, and just when he was about to pass away, he made a wish with all his heart for the chance to do everything over and go back to the beginning so that he could experience all of life’s blessings with his added perspective.

He closed his eyes, and when he woke up he was in his childhood bed, and the date on all the newspapers showed the same day he had first met me in his previous life. He knew he had to find me, so he came straight to the park where we had met and saw me just as he remembered. He then got down on his knees and asked me to come to the church right then to be his bride!

Of course, I thought the poor fellow was nuts, so I gave him my strangest look and said that I had to get back to my friends. At that point a lightbulb seemed to go off in his head, because he shook off his wild, intense look, laughed it off and said he was just practicing for an acting class. He said that I had struck his eye though, and he’d love to take me out sometime.

Normally, I would’ve brushed him off, but the whole time I was with him, my heart was beating a million miles a minute so I just had to say yes. Of course, before I could give him my phone number or even my name, he ran off, so I thought I had seen the end of him. To my great surprise, he somehow found my number, called me the next day, and the rest is history.

We dated for eight months, and from the beginning Sid could read me like a book. He always ordered me the right drinks, gave me the perfect gifts, and brought me my favorite flowers. Our courtship was like they describe in fairy tales and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

I’m sure it helps that Sid has been very good with his investments, which let us vacation regularly, retire early and have lots of time to spend with our family. But I know that we would have had the same phenomenal marriage if we had been less financially successful. Of course, having money is nice, but for me, the most important things are Sid, our children Jon, Benny and Molly, and our little doggie Van Nuys.
